The journal on a phone: a month of trading days, each tinted by its result
Example data

Straight from your broker

Interactive Brokers connects directly, with a key that can only read. Most other brokers give you a file, and Slate reads those too: Schwab, Robinhood, Webull, Freetrade, Trade Republic and more. Shorts and options come in with everything else. A direct Trading 212 connection is being tested.

Written out for you

Each insight is one sentence about your own trading. “You win 6 out of 10 trades.” “Your dip buys pay best.” The chart that backs it up sits underneath, if you want to check.

Every trading day, on a calendar

Each day is shaded by how it went, in money or as a share of your account. Tap a day to see its trades in the order they closed.

Your setups and your hours

Tag trades with your own setup names, FVG or whatever you call yours, and see how each one does. If you day trade, you’ll also see your results hour by hour.

After fees, in your currency

Every result has your broker’s fees taken off. Trades made in dollars are converted to your account’s currency at the European Central Bank’s rate for that day.

On your phone and your computer

The same journal on both. Add it to your phone’s home screen, and on a computer it uses the whole screen. Dark or light, in the colours you choose.

Michael Wright

Made by one trader

I’m Michael Wright, a trader who fell in love with the charts. I initially built Slate as a small private program to help me answer the burning question: Am I a profitable trader? I wanted honesty to be laid out in front of me, guiding me to become a full-time trader.

Slate is run by me alone, from the UK. Write to me through Help and feedback in the app and I’ll be sure to answer you myself.

More about meShow less

I first started trading 2 years ago. I was hooked from the beginning, sitting in front of charts for 8 hours a day. It gave me a purpose in my life which I was excited to pursue. The journey was a rollercoaster without a doubt, but I eventually settled on a simple Support and Resistance strategy, trading regular stocks. Holding for 1–2 days.

Finding that was a great balance, because it enabled me to focus on my other hobbies and university. Despite working hard though, it was uncomfortable not knowing whether I was actually a good trader. That’s when I thought about computing my past trades into some basic formulas. I completely ignored online platforms because of how expensive they were. After consistently improving the tool weekly, I eventually got it to a standard I was happy with.

After some convincing from a friend, I began transforming this tool into an app which I could offer to the public, but at an affordable price. My vision was to help those traders who are serious about improving themselves. I believed that what other journals charged was not acceptable. I’d been hurt before by thinking I was profitable when I wasn’t, and it left me unable to trust my own sense of how well I was doing. I didn’t want to guess anymore which is why I make sure to display the honest, and sometimes harsh, facts which can be deduced from a trader’s performance.

The result of this app is that I can now trade knowing the evidence will be there when I need to ask myself again whether I have become a profitable trader.

Thank you.
